Woodfest 2022

An event created by the Subtropical Farm Forestry Association Inc. (SFFA) and its major project Quality Timber Traders.

Closing date

Final date for registration of entries is January 1 2022. Due to limited exhibition space, early registration is recommended.

Competition date will be confirmed for Woodfest 2022.

Categories and prizes

A. WOODFEST 2022 BEST USE OF PLANTATION SPECIES

(Prize $2,000) Silver quandong, silky oak and/or Queensland maple in a made product eg. doors, furniture, interior decoration, musical instruments, surfboards.

B. WOODFEST 2022 DESIGN AWARD

(Prize $1,500) Open to all categories of woodwork, judged on craftsmanship and design excellence. Species used should be Australian (preferably native to the NSW Northern Rivers region). Exhibitors can enter both categories A and B. 

C. WOODFEST 2022 BEST ARCHITECTURAL USE OF LOCAL INDIGENOUS SPECIES

(Prize $500) In digital photo format. Featuring innovative uses of silver quandong, silky oak and Queensland maple, and examples of high levels of craftsmanship. 

Note: Due to limited exhibition space, applicants should note that early registration is recommended, and that the organising committee reserves the right to restrict or cease applications before the advertised cut-off if necessary.

There will also be a ‘WOODFEST 2022 PEOPLES CHOICE AWARD’ (prize $500), decided by visitors on the day.

Eligibility

  • Entries must be submitted via the official entry form on the QTT website.

  • Entrants must reside in Australia.

  • Entry is open to amateur and professional woodworkers.

  • Entries only become officially accepted once the entry fee has been paid, and approval in writing has been received from the Woodfest organising committee.

Entry requirements and Images

  • Entries will be accepted based on design and quality of craftsmanship.

  • Wood must be the major component (50% +) of any piece entered.

  • For accepted entries in categories A and B, a single photo of the entry, whether complete or not, must be sent to info@qualitytimbertraders.com by the 1st January 2022, for the short-listing process.

  • For accepted entries in category C, you must send five images of your project to info@qualitytimbertraders.com by the 1st January 2022 for the short-listing process. 

  • Images must be in JPEG (.jpg) or PNG (.png) format.

  • Entries submitted for the 2018 Woodfest event may not be entered again in 2022.

  • You may enter as many times as you like in categories A, B or C .

Short-listing by the Jury Panel

  • Entries in categories A, B and C will be reviewed in August by the Jury Panel, who will nominate those entries to be short-listed for public exhibition.

  • Short-listed entrants will be informed of their success, on or before the 1st January 2022.

  • Short-listed entries for categories A and B must be delivered to the competition venue at Jasper Corner, Federal NSW 2480 on the Saturday before Woodfest 2022 between 9am and 12 midday.

  • Short-listed entrants are encouraged to be present at Woodfest 2022, to engage with event visitors.

Limited exhibition space

The exhibition space is limited.

If that limit is deemed to have been reached before the official registration closing date above, the entry form system may be taken down from the website.

Judging and Announcement of winners

  • Judging will be a two-stage process, beginning in February 2022 the with selection of a short-list of the best entries.

  • Short-listed entries will be judged on the day of the exhibition, on the basis of design, construction, functionality, innovation, detail and materials.

  • Winners in each category will be posted on the QTT and SFFA websites and Facebook pages, within one week after the Woodfest event.   

Other issues; including Copyright

  • Entrants retain the copyright for their pieces and for photos. Entrants grant the Subtropical Farm Forestry Association Inc. and its project Quality Timber Traders, the limited right to use images and photos for the purposes of publicising the Woodfest event. 

  • Entrants indemnify the Subtropical Farm Forestry Association Inc. against any claim arising regarding their exhibit during the competition proper, or from publication of images.

  • The organising committee reserves the right to disqualify any entry deemed to be in breach of these Terms and Conditions, and to require the refunding of any prize money.
