We have successfully completed an 8-month project, to help farmers to collaborate and harvest and market their timber, from the Federal Government Farming Together Program auspiced to Southern Cross University (SCU).

QTT will help growers to assess, harvest, mill, dry and market their timber. The focus will be to produce and sell high-end quality timber for use in products such as furniture and architectural detailing.

The Forest Research Centre at SCU has assisted with stand assessment, on site harvesting, milling and drying trials. They have also tested for quality and maximum timber recovery.

Guidelines will be developed to ensure member's planted woodlots are not degraded by the harvesting. Our aim is to enhance biodiversity values with ecologically sensitive selective harvesting. The initial focus will be on the fast-growing trees, such as silver quandong, that are dominating the tree stands.

If you think you may have suitable trees or if you would like to source quality sustainably-grown timber, please let us know so that we can provide you with more detailed information as to how you can be a part of this project.
